R + D + i department: strategic pillar of the Uvesa Group
The constant activity of this department makes it possible to introduce improvements in the products, as well as in the development of the processes.
Uvesa has extensive experience in research projects at the regional, national and international level, in collaboration with research groups of recognized prestige in the poultry and pig sector. Throughout all these years, various projects have been developed, leading some and participating as a collaborator in others. Some of the initiatives and programs in which it has participated are:
- Regional projects of the Government of Navarra to support research, development and innovation projects.
- Autonomous projects of the Junta de Castilla y León.
- Autonomous projects of the Generalitat Valenciana and Valencian Innovation Agency (AVI).
- Preparation of the Technological Plan for Navarra and Euroinnova, promoted by the Government of Navarra.
- Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness: Torres Quevedo program for hiring personnel, Innpacto program, Innplanta program.
- National CDTI projects, individual, integrated, in cooperation, EUREKA and IBEROEKA programs, INNTERCONECTA ANDALUCÍA Program, STRATEGIC CIEN.

Projects that have the financial support of Industrial Technological Development (CDTI).
Uvesa has been the leading company in the consortium formed by 5 companies in the CDTI Innterconecta project of Andalusia approved in the 2013 call and entitled: “INTERSÁNEA: alternative products and new technologies for the differentiation and improvement of poultry products”.
UVESA leads the CIEN AVANZA-S (IDI-20150602) strategic project, entitled “RESEARCH AND EXPERIMENTAL DEVELOPMENT OF NEW HEALTHIER FOODS AND ADVANCED PACKAGING (1/7)”, approved by the board of directors of the Center for Industrial Technological Development ( CDTI), at its meeting held on 07/23/2015. This project is financed through CDTI’s own funds.
UVESA leads the strategic project CIEN TECFOOD (IDI-20170877), entitled “NEW HEALTHY TECHNOLOGICAL FOODS FOR NEW SOCIAL NEEDS (1/8)”, approved by the board of directors of the Center for Industrial Technological Development (CDTI), in its meeting held on November 29, 2017. This project is financed through CDTI’s own funds.
UVESA participates in the CIEN BIOPRO strategic project (IDI-20170863), entitled “OBTAINING BIOACTIVE COMPONENTS FOR THE AGRI-FOOD SECTOR THROUGH BIOCONVERSION AND BIORREFINING PROCESSES OF BY-PRODUCTS OF ANIMAL AND PLANT ORIGIN. (2/8)”, approved by the Board of Directors of the Center for Industrial Technological Development (CDTI), at its meeting held on November 29, 2017. This project is financed through CDTI’s own funds.
UVESA leads the CIEN SEGURAM strategic project (IDI-20191032), entitled “GENERATION OF INNOVATIVE STRATEGIES AIMED AT INCREASING FOOD PRODUCTIVITY, QUALITY AND SAFETY BY REDUCING THE USE OF ANTIBIOTICS IN THE MEAT SECTOR (SEGURAM) (1/7)”, approved by the board of directors of the Center for Industrial Technological Development (CDTI), at its meeting held on November 26, 2019. This project is financed through CDTI’s own funds.
- Projects that have the financial support of the ERDF Operational Program managed by the Government of Navarra:
UVESA has received 50% co-financed aid from the European Regional Development Fund through the FEDER 2007-2013 Operational Program of Navarra in the project “Conservation of chicken meat through new packaging technologies.” The objective of the project is focused on the development of a novel active packaging system for chicken meat.
UVESA has received a 50% co-financed aid by the European Regional Development Fund through the FEDER 2014-2020 Operational Program of Navarra for the development of the project “Study of the effect of new diets based on different energy sources on zootechnical indices and quality of chicken meat “.
UVESA has received 50% co-financed aid from the European Regional Development Fund through the FEDER 2014-2020 Operational Program of Navarra for the development of the project “STUDY OF NEW HYGIENIC TECHNOLOGIES APPLIED TO POULTRY INTEGRATION”.
UVESA has received a 50% co-financed aid by the European Regional Development Fund through the FEDER 2014-2020 Operational Program of Navarra for the development of the project “REDUSANT: Innovative strategies in hatcheries to reduce the use of antibiotics in poultry farming “.
UVESA has received 50% co-financed aid by the Government of Navarra and the European Regional Development Fund through the FEDER 2014-2020 Operational Program of Navarra for the development of the project entitled: TRASEGA: New tool for traceability and food safety in poultry ”(File 0011-1365-2018-000223).

Projects that have the financial support of other local or regional entities:
UVESA has financial support from the AVI (Valencian Innovation Agency) within the Consolidation program of the business value chain of 2019, to execute the “AVICO2 Project: Experimental development of a CO2 generating tray to increase the useful life of meat of packaged bird ”. This project is led by 2 companies, UVESA and Termoformas de Levante, with the collaboration of research centers such as ITENE and IATA-CSIC.
UVESA once again has the financial support of the AVI (Valencian Innovation Agency) within the 2020 Strategic Projects in cooperation program, to execute the “DEVELOPMENT OF STRATEGIES BASED ON PROCESS IMPROVEMENTS TO REDUCE THE INCIDENCE OF MYOPATHIES AND A PROTOTYPE FOR CHANNEL DISCRIMINATION BY DETECTION OF DEEP PECTORAL MYOPATHIES (MPD) AT LEVELS OF ANGINA (RED MUSCLE) OR INFARCTION (GREEN MUSCLE) “INNEST / 2020/11. This project is made up of 2 companies, UVESA Y DISEÑO Y CONSTRUCCIÓN DE MAQUINARIA AUTOMATIZADA, S.L. (DCM) and the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV). In its first year of the project (2020), the established technical objectives have been successfully achieved by UVESA.

Project: MICOALGA-FEED: Reduction of antibiotics in livestock farming through natural feed based on the use of fungi and algae.
Innovation project co-financed 80% by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD) of the European Union and 20% by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, within the framework of the National Rural Development Programme 2014-2020. The Directorate-General for Rural Development, Innovation and Agri-Food Training (DGDRIFA) is the authority responsible for implementing this aid. Total budget: 523.259,66 €. Total subsidy: 505,519.66 €.

AVIENERGY Project:
COLLABORATING MEMBER OF THE AVIENERGY PROJECT
From waste to resource: Circular economy in the poultry sector through the energy use of manure
AVIENERGY is a project carried out by a supra-autonomous Operational Group (covering the regions of Galicia, Castilla y León and Murcia) whose purpose is to promote a more efficient use of resources in the poultry sector by applying a strategy based on the foundations of the circular bioeconomy, enabling a more efficient use of the waste generated in poultry activity to improve the sector’s competitiveness and environmental impact.
FUNDING: This innovation project is co-financed 80% by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD) of the European Union and 20% by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, within the framework of the National Development Program Rural 2014-2020. The General Directorate for Rural Development, Innovation and Agrifood Training (DGDRIFA) is the authority in charge of applying said aid. Total budget: €583,672.84. Total grant: €565,872.84.
