True to its commitment to good practices in the food industry, UVESA Group has obtained the seal of Animal Welfare Certificate for its integration of pigs in Spain.
A total of 260 farms, including more than twenty breeding sow and piglet farms, their rearing/transition centres and more than 200 pig fattening farms.
The IAWS Regulation, developed by Interprofesional del Porcino de Capa Blanca (INTERPORC), ensures compliance with the five principles of animal welfare established by the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE): animals free from hunger, thirst and malnutrition; free from fear and distress; free from physical or thermal discomfort; free from pain, injury or disease; and free to express their own behavioural patterns.
These principles must also be complied with in the 8 areas of control set out in the IAWS Regulation, which are feeding, good cleaning-disinfection practices, housing, health, behaviour, management and control of farms and animals, during all phases of the production process.
The Technical Regulation reinforces the commitment of farmers, slaughterhouses and industry with animal welfare and responds to the needs of the sector, large-scale distribution and consumers, providing through its Animal Welfare Certified seal visibility and transparency to all these efforts of operators in the pig sector.
With this certification UVESA Group reinforces its duty to comply not only with EU legislation on animal welfare, but other additional requirements that involve a higher level of demand in animal health, animal handling, biosecurity, traceability and environment, responding to the needs of Spanish consumers, offering high quality products, healthy and safe.
