The campaign has visited 32 schools and has involved more than 2,800 primary schoolchildren.
Tudela, 1 July 2025. Coinciding with the end of the school year, UVESA Group and Gourmetfood Catering close the project ‘Buen aprovecho’, an educational initiative developed between February and June in school canteens of 32 schools in Navarra. More than 2,800 children in kindergarten and primary school have participated in this experience, which combines education in healthy habits with food sustainability.
The main aim of the programme has been to raise awareness among children about two key aspects: the importance of proper hand washing and the need to reduce food waste.
Record of leftover food
Each day, the educational team has quantified the food not consumed by recording the weight of the surplus food on a daily basis. This information was displayed on boards visible to the diners, facilitating reflection on food preferences and promoting more responsible consumption.
In addition, the workshop included activities aimed at explaining the economic, environmental and energy impact of food waste, thus reinforcing learning from a holistic approach.
Practical and participatory
The project included activities such as: Discover the secret message, in which schoolchildren learned tricks to avoid throwing food away; and Hands on, in which they created recipes with leftovers, homemade compost or reusable products such as plasticine or glue.
These activities were complemented with competitions, challenges and environmental education workshops to promote values such as sustainability, responsibility and respect for the environment
To continue at home
At the end of the workshop, each participant received a leaflet with games and suggestions to share with the family, encouraging the continuity of learning at home and offering creative ideas to give a second life to food.
Buen aprovecho has been a sign of the joint commitment of UVESA and Gourmetfood with education in values and sustainability, creating an enriching experience for both schoolchildren and the educational community.
